We'll see you in San Diego in 2017!

History of the All-Hazards Incident Management Teams Association

In 2005, in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, Illinois emergency management personnel were dispatched to Louisiana. Seeing the desperate need for professional emergency management teams that could be deployed during times of crisis, members of the group were inspired to organize what would become the Illinois Type III Incident Management Team (IL-IMT). In 2008 the IL-IMT organized the first All-Hazards IMT Conference in DeKalb, Illinois. It was during this conference that the idea of forming a national All-Hazards IMT Association (AHIMTA) was first proposed.

A second conference was held in 2009 and the work on AHIMTA continued. A dedicated group moved the idea forward. On the first of December 2010, members of the Colorado, Jefferson County Type III IMT filed incorporation documents and the AHIMTA became a reality. Shortly thereafter, the first official AHIMTA Training and Education Symposium was held.

AHIMTA’s goals are to provide leadership and education to IMTs and their members. To promote, support, and enhance the profession of incident and emergency management by establishing standards and promoting the cooperation of federal, state, local, and tribal agencies, non-governmental organizations and the private sector in all phases of incident/emergency management.

This year the AHIMTA Training & Education Symposium will be held in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, December 2 – 8, 2016. Emergency professionals from across the country and around the globe will gather at the Renaissance Oklahoma City Convention Center Hotel for five days of training, sharing lessons learned, and networking. Don’t miss this opportunity to expand your professional network, because in the world of incident management it’s all about:

The Power of Partnerships.
